Sager Strong Team - Pancreatic Cancer Walk
Sager Strong team update - 37 members, more than $7,000 raised so far!
The Sager family was saddened to learn last November that Jeff Grossman, the beloved husband of our friend and Sager colleague Eileen Grossman, had lost his brief but intense battle with pancreatic cancer. Just eight weeks prior to Jeff’s passing, he was living normally – working, golfing, socializing, going to the beach and attending family events. It wasn’t until he started noticing a dull ache in his abdomen that Jeff found himself at the hospital and realized the unimaginable. Jeff had a mass on his pancreas and one week shy of his 65th birthday – he passed away.
What makes pancreatic cancer such an abrupt and life-changing disease is that it can remain dormant within an individual for up to 18 years before showing symptoms. Once the symptoms show, the disease has usually reached an irreversible stage. Eileen learned a lot in Jeff’s brief 8-week battle, and her experience has driven her to begin researching ways to help make a difference for those who are also affected by this disease. Awareness and increased research funding are critical to finding a cure.
Eileen and the Sager Middleborough community have formed the Sager Strong team, which will be participating in the Lustgarten Foundation Cure Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk on May 12, 2018 in Easton, Massachusetts. The event is a 5-mile run or walk (or participants can choose a 2.5 mile route). The cost to join is a $50 registration fee. What makes this charity walk unique is that, due to private funding, 100% of the donations go directly to pancreatic cancer research. Anyone who would like to join the Sager Strong – In Memory of Jeff Grossman team can learn more about registering for the event on the Sager Strong team page:- https://events.lustgarten.org/team/154725.
