Differential-Pair Contact System From Tyco Electronics Enhances Connector Performance, Simplifies
Board Routing
Tyco Electronics has introduced the CHAMP Z-DOK connector system that accommodates data rates up to
6.25Gbps while permitting standard board materials and routing techniques. The new connector utilizes
the popular CHAMP .050" connector interface, adapted to a robust blindmate design for docking applications.
The CHAMP Z-DOK connector features a TRI-Q Contact System that maximizes data throughput while minimizing
pair-to-pair crosstalk and impedance discontinuities.
The CHAMP Z-DOK connector features a TRI-Q Contact System that maximizes data throughput while minimizing
pair-to-pair crosstalk and impedance discontinuities. Each differential contact pair is in close proximity to
a dedicated ground, thereby providing a uniform impedance profile and low noise. Grounds are confined to two
contact rows to simplify trace routing, control crosstalk and to minimize impedance discontinuities at the board
interface.
The CHAMP Z-DOK connector is available in size increments of 8 differential pairs, up to a 64-pair size. Ground circuits
mate prior to signal circuits for proper sequencing. The blindmate housing guides also include a contact design offered
in two versions - a mate-first/break-last configuration for ESD control, and a mate-last/break-first style for sensing full
PC card seating before circuit initialization.
Samples of the CHAMP Z-DOK connector are available now for testing.
