In an effort to reduce the use of hazardous material in electronic equipment as well as allow for additional recycling opportunities for these products, the European Union implemented a Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and a directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). RoHS bans the use of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDE). The directives associated with the banning of these products went into effect July 1, 2006. WEEE is aimed at reducing the hazardous material content in electronic products as well as increasing recycling efforts for these products.
For many suppliers this has involved converting from tin/lead plating to a compliant substance or moving toward a lead free solder for products such as cables, relays, power systems, microwave devices and more. At Sager, we worked with our suppliers to ease the transition to RoHS-compliant products. We will continue to address RoHS, WEEE and other environmental issues and to keep you informed of any changes that may impact your business.
Sager Electronics' Efforts
At Sager, we understand that your business may be impacted by the move to RoHS-compliant products. We worked with our suppliers to keep you informed of changes and to help ease the possible transition to new part numbers, new products or new solutions.
